Vienna, VA(703) 281-5121
The Hope Center’s Nutrition department is currently closed as Dr. Allen focuses on completing the requirements of her nutrition residency. If you are a primary veterinarian referring a case, please see this page for alternatives.
For patients with chronic or acute dietary concerns, Dr. Heidi Allen performs nutritional consults on an outpatient basis. Patients dealing with multiple medical problems or needing homemade diets are good candidates for nutrition consults, as are patients not responding to pre-prepared diets for weight loss, hypercholesterolemia, hypertrygliceridemia, or unresolving urinary stones.
Dr. Allen helps clients to select diets based on the needs of their pets and educates clients with tips for decyphering food labels. If needed, patients can be admitted to the hospital for continued care. The nutrition department believes that owner knowledge and understanding is the key to success. They will take the time to fully explain the recommended therapies so you can make an informed decision for your pet. The nutrition department will work closely with your primary care veterinarian to make sure there is a team approach to the care that is given.
Appointments are available Wednesdays and Fridays, and Dr. Allen is available to the referring community for phone consultations Tuesday through Friday regarding nutrition questions. (See Above) Appointments can be made with Dr. Allen by calling the Internal Medicine line at 703-281-4540. (See Above)
Dr. Allen graduated in 1996 from the Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine, and completed her internship and residency at the Animal Medical Center in New York City. Dr Allen practiced internal medicine at Affiliated Veterinary Specialist in Florida before joining the staff of The Hope Center. Dr. Allen is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. She is currently completing her residency in Nutrition at the Virginia Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine.
