Oncology Opening in August

Hope Advanced Veterinary Center is proud to announce the opening of our Oncology department at our Rockville location on August 3rd, 2015. The department will offer compassionate, comprehensive care to Maryland and DC pets fighting cancer and provide support and options to their families.

The Oncology department will be available Monday – Friday. We are excited to introduce two wonderful oncologists to the community.

RRasmussenDr. Rachel Rasmussen is a Washington DC area native, having grown-up in Bethesda, MD before attending the University of Vermont where she completed a B.S. in Biological Sciences and Animal Science. She then traveled across the country where she received her veterinary degree from Western University of Health Sciences in southern California in 2011. After graduation, she completed a one-year small animal rotating internship at Colorado State University. Dr. Rasmussen then moved to Madison, WI where she recently completed a three-year medical oncology residency at the University of Wisconsin.

With so many advances in veterinary oncology, she looks forward to providing owners with a comprehensive summary of diagnostic and treatment options in order to create a plan that works best for them and their pet.

Dr. Rasmussen is excited to be back in the Washington DC area with her family and friends. Outside of work she enjoys playing golf, running, yoga, travel, and cheering on the Badgers with her fiancé, Mike.

ALeblancDr. Amy LeBlanc is a board-certified veterinary oncologist and a 1999 graduate of Michigan State University, holding both BS and DVM degrees. She completed a rotating internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at Texas A&M University and a residency in Companion Animal Oncology at Louisiana State University. She is board-certified by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM) in the specialty of Oncology. Prior to relocating to Maryland in 2014, Dr. LeBlanc was an Associate Professor with Tenure at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. She has trained numerous veterinary oncology residents and spoken nationally and internationally in the field of veterinary oncology and comparative cancer imaging. She is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, ACVIM, and Veterinary Cancer Society.

Her husband Casey, a veterinary clinical pathologist, and two daughters Erica and Isabelle, are enjoying the metro DC area and all it has to offer.
